Introduction
Urban Fantasy novels are still going from strength to strength with some great new books being released this month. Those looking for stories of vampires and zombies will not be disappointed, with such themes being relevant as Halloween draws close. So read on to discover some entertaining books to keep you occupied in October.
Vampires and Zombies
The Twilight of Lake Woebegotten by Harrison Geillor. Release date October 4th. Just when you thought the novelty of Twilight spoofs was dead and buried, here comes yet another one. However, this one does have with an interesting twist. Bonnie Grayduck becomes fascinated by a student in her new school called Edwin Schullen who she discovers belongs to a family of reclusive vampires. But it turns out Bonnie isn't the nice, slightly clumsy girl everyone thinks she is, and the vampires aren't the monsters of the story.
In Memories We Fear by Barb Hendee. Release date October 4th. Coming from the esteemed author of the Noble Dead series, here is another book in Hendee's Blood Memories series. In this novel we see vampire Eleisha Clevon traveling to London to find the feral vampire who she believes has been carrying out a series of killings across the city. She wants to offer him sanctuary, but what she finds is not what she had expected.
Dead Mann Walking by Stefan Petrucha. Release date October 4th. Hessius Mann is convicted of his wife's murder and executed before the case can be overturned. However, Mann is brought back to life (sort of) thanks to the miracles of modern science. He then begins a career as a private investigator and finds himself entwined a case of chopped up zombies.
Darkness Rising by Keri Arthur. Release date October 25th. This is the second book in the Dark Angels series. Risa wants to avenge her mother's death, and to do so she makes a pact with the most evil vampire she knows. In return for this help Risa must hunt down the person who placed a curse on the elders of the local council causing them to age rapidly and die. However, there are dark forces that want Risa dead, and the power of her vampire ally might not be enough to save her.
Dead of Night by Jonathan Maberry. Release date October 25th. When a prison doctor decides to inject a serial killer with a drug that will keep him alive as his body decomposes in the grave, it doesn't all go to plan. The killer wakes up before he can be buried, hungry and contagious, leading to the end of the world as we know it.
Flesh and Blood by Kristen Painter. Release date October 25th. This is the second book in the House of Comarre series, where we find Chrysabelle returning to the vampire city of Corvinestri in order to pay Malkolm back for the help he has given her. But Chrysabelle discovers she has a brother, meaning she may just have to renege on her deal with Malkolm, causing an anger in him that might just loose his beast.
