Urban Fantasy has become one of the most popular novel genres in recent times, particularly those written for teenagers. Perhaps what makes them so popular is that they are not only loved and enjoyed by young readers, but by adults too. Some might consider the market to be saturated with books of this kind, and so, it can be difficult to sift out the truly well written books from those that are not so good. The following is a collection of five of the best new Urban Fantasy books out there, if readers stick with these they will not be disappointed.
Best New Urban Fantasy Picks
(1.) Arguably the best Urban Fantasy novel released in the last year is Andrea Cremer's Nightshade, readers will find themselves going back to this book a second, or even a third time. This book follows the trials and tribulations of Calla Tor, a werewolf and soon to be alpha of a new pack. The problem is that she must go along with an arranged marriage in order for this to happen. Unfortunately, Calla's life is irreversibly complicated when she saves the life of a human boy, thereby breaking the laws of her world.
(2.) Another great read is The Demon Trapper's Daughter by Jana Oliver. In this novel Riley Blackthorne follows the career path of her father by becoming an apprentice demon trapper. Set in a world of the future where demons are encountered by people on a regular basis, Riley's work entails trapping these creatures that cause havoc for the human population. When her father dies in a demon attack, Riley finds herself all alone in a society of men, but she is determined to keep her place as the only female demon trapper.
(3.) The Demon's Lexicon by young Irish writer Sarah Rees Brennan is a must read for those who enjoyed Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series. These books focus on half brothers Nick and Alan, who have spent their lives on the run from magicians. When pink haired Mae brings her brother, who has been marked by a demon, to Nick and Alan for help, the boys must face the malevolent magicians they have been running from head on.
(4.) Intertwined, the first book in Gena Showalter's young adult series sees teenager Aden Stone, who has been living in mental institutions all his life, move to a new group foster home. People have always thought that Aden was insane, but that's only because he has four souls living inside his head. Aden has been having dreams of a beautiful girl, and when he sees her in his new town he knows he must follow her in order to discover what he is.
(5.) Infinite Days by Rebecca Maizel sees 592 year old vampire Lenah Beaudonte reborn a human. Fellow vampire Rhode sacrifices his own life in order to make her human again. Lenah wakes up in an apartment on a high school campus, no longer a dead creature, but a 16 year old girl again. Rhode has set up a new life for her, where she must go to school and live as a normal teenager. This book is a refreshing and original tale, and a highly recommended read for any fans of vampire fiction.
